You blink repeatedly in confusion, before gently rubbing your eyes, even pinching yourself to see if you're still in reality. Your eyes are fine, and when you pinch yourself, you find that it hurts, but you don't wake up. Frowning, you blink again. You can't remember anything; who you are, where you are, why you're here.
Before you stands a young woman, standing by high black metal gates. Beyond the gates, you can see nothing but a wide, grey pavement of stone, like a path of some sort. The woman, with her long, mahogany hair smiles in greeting. She's cloaked in a sort of flowing blue robe, but it shimmers and shifts to different tones and shades in the light. Her skin is smooth and tanned, and she has a peculiar black tattoo on her neck, some sort of spiraling pattern. She looks so terribly familiar, but you simply cannot place her.
"Oh, hello. You must be new here - of course, you would be, why else would you be standing here, at the gates to our world?" she laughs, as if trying to lighten the mood. Her wise, azure eyes twinkle in the light of the sun, high in the blue sky. "Allow me to explain. My name is Thena, and I am the gate keeper of the City. You came to our world through the Portal. We've been getting a lot more people traveling through the Portal recently, I've noticed. Anyway, you probably don't remember what happened you - most of them don't. You see, you are part of the BoD Project: that stands for Beyond our Dreams. You're a teenager - or at least, most of them are, they used to have kids, because of their extreme imaginations, but soon the kids couldn't control their minds here - and at the moment, you're in a really deep sleep, almost like a coma."
Your jaw drops.
"Oh, but there's no need to be afraid." Thena says brightly, "This world is very safe and beautiful. We've carefully structured it to our requirements. This world exists in our minds. People say it's Paradise. Well, I suppose, everybody has a different definition to Paradise. It's more like a world that all of your imagination has created, along with everybody else involved in the Project. You're here to collect information about this world, and, when the time comes, you will return 'home'."
"When I open these gates, an animal of some sort will greet you. Usually, the animals are small companions. They pick their own names, and know their own names before you even set eyes on them. They're here to keep you company, and, while you're here, they will act as your 'other half' - almost like part of your soul, I suppose. If, or when, your animal companion dies, you will awaken from your sleep and return to the other world. Once gone, you will not be able to return again. The animal will represent you while you are here - a sort of image of your personality. You can't be too far away from your companion, though, because if the distances stretches too far your connection will break, and you'll wake up. Your animal will come back here to this gate as a reincarnation to become the companion of the next person to venture here."
"Well, I suppose you'll learn about everything else when you go through these gates. I bid you farewell for now and for always, and I wish you luck on your journey!" Thena beams, her hand wavering over the gates. She did not even touch them, yet they gently opened. Still very surprised, you blinked once more, before stepping over the boundary to greet your animal companion, and the entire world that apparently awaits you.
Welcome to Ademais.This RP is set approximately 1,000 years from now. Your character(s) has been selected out of thousands at random to be part of the Beyond our Dreams Project. Your character is between the age of eleven to twenty-one, male or female. Doesn't matter if you're the poshest lady in the city at home or the most unfortunate of all the street urchins on the streets; they don't care.
'They' are the scientists, the ones in charge of the Project. They've been studying sleep patterns, etc for decades, and have finally created a device that allows human minds to interconnect through dreams. You were taken to one of their labs; these labs are found in various countries. One is in America; another in Brazil; there's one in Ireland; yet another in Russia; there's another in Africa, and a few smaller ones scattered across the globe, but they are all the same. Everybody involved as the 'Experiments' of the Project are connected through their dreams. Your character remembers nothing from the previous world, and will not do so until they return; even so, their memory will be foggy. Not that they'll be returning any time soon anyway: once in Ademais, time slows down: a day in the real world is like a hour in Ademais.
You'll find that your character will have a select 'Power' or 'Ability' - something that adds to them. Because Ademais is set in the world of dreams, magic is a possibility, and nobody questions it. There are the occasional witches or sages, who have been in Ademais for so long they don't believe in ever returning to the real world. These women are both helpful and dangerous, depending on who you turn to.
Rules.1) This is semi-literate, meaning I expect an absolute minimum of three lines per character.
2) You can have as many characters as you can handle, but try to use them all daily.
3) No two characters can have the exact same 'Power'.
4) Ademais is a world, not just one little island. Feel free to add in any additions you feel fit, so long as they're not too extreme.
5) No Gods, Mary Sues, etc.
6) No godly animal companions. Your companion should be small enough to perch on your shoulder, sit on your head, etc. It should not be any taller than that of the height from the ground to your knee. 'Baby' tigers, etc are not allowed. Cats, dogs, small woodland animals, etc are fine - lions, elephants, crocodiles, etc are not. Use your common sense.
7) Do not abandon anybody. Have patience when RP'ing: people need time to respond. Please respect that!
